Capture

The menu bar is the whole app.

SnipTool lives in the menu bar — no Dock icon, no main window. Click the scissors to pick a capture mode, or use a global shortcut from anywhere.

• Rectangle Snip ⌘⇧1 Drag a crosshair over any region. The capture fires the moment you release.
• Window Snip ⌘⇧2 Click any window to capture it with its native shadow — even behind other windows.
• Full-screen Snip Grab your entire main display in one click.
• Freeform Snip Draw a lasso around an irregular shape. Everything outside it stays transparent.
• Delay No delay, 3, 5, or 10 seconds — long enough to open a menu or hover a tooltip first. The active choice stays checked in the menu.
• Upgrade to Pro… One-time $1.99 purchase. Disappears once you own it.
• Settings… ⌘, General, Shortcuts, and About.
• Quit SnipTool ⌘Q

The editor

Nine drawing tools.

Every capture opens straight into the annotation editor. Pick a tool, pick a colour, draw. ⌘Z undoes anything, including the Pro effects.

• Undo ⌘Z · Redo ⌘⇧Z Full history across strokes, text, emoji, pixelate, blur, and redaction.
• Copy to clipboard Flattens your annotations and puts the image on the pasteboard, ready to paste anywhere.
• Save ⌘S Writes straight to your last-used folder — no dialog.
• Save As… ⌘⇧S Choose the folder, the filename, and the format.
• Drag out Grab the thumbnail and drop the finished image into Finder, Mail, Slack, Figma — anything that accepts a file.
• Close without saving esc

Pro tools

Hide what shouldn’t be shared. Lift out what should.

Four Pro features live in the same toolbar, marked with a badge. They unlock together with a single $1.99 purchase.

• PixelatePRO Paint a mosaic over any region. Three strengths, erasable, and fully undoable.
• BlurPRO Gaussian blur with Soft, Medium, and Strong radii — for when a mosaic looks too harsh.
• Extract TextPRO Runs Apple Vision on-device to find every line of text in the capture and overlay it as selectable regions. No network, no upload.
• Copy All TextPRO Appears after extraction — puts everything Vision found on the clipboard in one click.
• Redact Sensitive InfoPRO Detects emails and phone numbers in the extracted text and black-boxes all of them at once, before you share.
• Pin to ScreenPRO Float the finished capture in an always-on-top window while you work — up to five at a time. Right-click a pin to ⌘C Copy or ⌘⇧S Export it.

Export

Four formats. Your folder, remembered.

• PNG Lossless, with transparency preserved — the right default for freeform snips.
• JPEG With a quality slider right in the save dialog.
• TIFF For print and archival workflows.
• PDF Single-page, vector-wrapped — handy for bug reports and documentation.
• Quick Save remembers After the first Save As…, ⌘S writes to the same folder every time with a timestamped filename.

Settings

Three panels. That’s it.

SnipTool ships with defaults that work. What’s left is worth changing.

• Launch at Login Start SnipTool automatically when you log in.
• Play Sound on Capture A short confirmation tone after each screenshot. Off by default.
• Enable Global Shortcuts Turns ⌘⇧1 and ⌘⇧2 on system-wide. Requires Accessibility access, which SnipTool walks you through on first run.
• About Version number and a direct line to support.
